Welcome to the High Cloud Running Team Page!

Dear Runners,

Have you ever thought of pushing yourself that extra mile for a purpose? Did you ever think that your running could make such a tremendous difference in the lives of children and orphans who live on less than $1.00 a day?

The High Cloud Foundation has had the tremendous opportunity to run or walk a 10 K, Half Marathon or full marathon to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children, orphans and families that are currently battling issues of inequality, poverty, violence, and fear.

At High Cloud, our mission is to help alleviate world poverty for the vulnerable among us – children, orphans, families and mothers who are victims of violence or natural disasters occurring throughout the world. We currently have humanitarian operations in Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and Brazil. We also are expanding our missions this year to Tunisia, India and Macedonia. High Cloud provides humanitarian assistance and support to orphanages, foundations and rural schools through educational programs, sports and additional extracurricular activities. High Cloud also provides the basic elements of life such as clothing, food, school supplies as well as financial support. In addition to physical human needs, we are also dedicated to providing displaced children and families with a sense of belonging, self-esteem, empowerment and opportunity.

You can help us make a difference by joining the High Cloud Running Team! It is all about having fun with a purpose. High Cloud’s running Team is dedicated to improving the living conditions and supporting the education of impoverished children and orphans around the world. We would like to ask you as a runner or walker to demonstrate your commitment and passion to making a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable among us. Runners of all levels and abilities are welcome to join our Team. All you have to do is raise a little money, and the training for the High Cloud runs is absolutely free.

You will train with our team of experienced coaches, dedicated volunteers and amazing enthusiastic runners that will motivate you to stay focus and achieve your goals. You could either walk or run the races with the High Cloud Team. High Cloud participates in National as well as International half- and full marathons. We welcome you to join us to enrich the lives of those in need, and to enhance the purpose of life for ourselves. If you choose to join the team, you will receive an amazing gift bag containing goodies from the High Cloud Foundation (www.highcloud.org). You just have to wear a High Cloud shirt before or after the raise, the whole point is to raise awareness by using our power and strong will to finish the race in order to help others.

We would love to talk with you more about High Cloud's mission, our amazing philanthropic trips and how running is making a tremendous difference in the lives of many children and orphans around the world Please feel free to contact us at: founder@highcloud.org or at rcollins@highcloud.org

Thank you for your support.

 Meet The Coaches

Nick (Nicholas Panebianco), RRCA Certified Running Coach since 2000

Nick is a certified Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) runner coach and chairman of the "Big Brother Big Sisters (BBBS) Run for Kids Marathon Challenge". He has been a Prince George’s county Big Brother since 1993 and has been training BBBS runners to run the Marine Corps Marathon since 1997. Nick is a staunch supporter of children’s charities and marathon running.

Nick has completed thirty marathons which include 5 ultra-marathons. His marathon PR (3:16) allowed him to qualify and run the 2003 Boston Marathon. He has run the JFK 50 twice and he has finished three birthday ultras (running his age in miles) at age 40, 43, and 44.

John (John Steitz), USATF Trained Running Coach

Coach John lives in Alexandria, VA, and has completed 17 marathons in his 6+ years of training and racing. He is a USATF-trained coach, entering his fourth year with Marathon Charity Partners. He is a member of the Marine Corps Marathon Runners Club, enabling him now to run that marathon every year, and has only 44 states to go before he gets his "50 States + DC" T-shirt.

With a 5:26 marathon PR (so far), Coach John works closely with the "Penguins," the back of the pack runners, who complete marathons in five to seven hours. "Speed is great if you have it, but you don’t have to be a speed demon to complete a marathon. So long as you can run or walk/run faster than 15 minutes per mile, you can complete the Marine Corps Marathon, and most other marathons, too. And there is no reason why anyone, at any pace, cannot become more fit and healthy by race walking or running a half marathon. In the MCP training program, we can help you accomplish either feat."

In addition to the walk/run method, Coach John trains runners in hydration, intervals and fartlek, negative splits, warmup and stretching techniques, strength and cross-training. He leads Tuesday and Thursday evening runs for MCP trainees in Arlington. In addition to coaching MCP, Coach John coordinates the "Walk-to-Run" new runner program of Arlington Cooperation Foundation each winter/spring, and serves as race director for a half marathon and 20 mile training race.

Kevin (Kevin Dopart), Veteran Marathoner

Jay (Jay Jacob Wind), RRCA Trained Running Coach

Jay Jacob Wind has been coaching since 1987. He has taken both RRCA and USATF Level I coaching courses. He has finished 117 marathons as of March 2008, with a lifetime best of 2:27:25 at Boston 1980 and a recent best of 3:11:28 at Washington’s Birthday 2004, good for second place overall. He also runs many shorter races each year. He directs Potomac River Run Marathon (this year on Sunday, May 4), a benefit for High Cloud and other charities.

Jay will be inducted into Arlington Sports Hall of Fame at its annual banquet on Wednesday, May 28, and you are invited. For more information, see http://mysite.verizon.net/arlsportshof1958
